FEEL TRIP

Last Thursday, November 4, our school had our annual field trip. We went to Gardenia Bread Factory [link] and to Manila Ocean Park [link] Actually it's my second time going to field trips as teacher-

Normally, field trips are fun for the teachers because children have their parents with them- guess what? In this field trip- there are no parents allowed.

Yep you read that right- again these are 2-6 year old kids, but these field trips- only teachers and few volunteer parents and nannies are asked to be with us. Even though it's already my second time- the pressure is still on- since we are fully accountable to whatever happens to the kids.

I was assigned to two boys from my class, one of them is the son of a prominent celebrity and the other, son of a bigtime businessman.
Ever since I started teaching preschool- I look forward for their funny and innocent comments- (ex. "You know what? My daddy is so silly~ all he says is NO NO NO and NO.") but nothing prepared me for what one of the boy told me:

"You know what? When I grow up, I want to be a teacher."

I was seriously stunned- my instinct was to ask why and maybe he'll answer me that because I'm a good teacher and etc etc but I controlled myself and just quietly hugged him.

Suddenly, the pains from being treated as sofa, the spilled milk and water and the exhaustion from handling them the whole day disappeared-

When I think back about what I did to might have affected his decision, only one thing came to my mind-

I just loved him.

PART-TIME ARTIST; FULL TIME TEACHER 2

Woo! Its really been a long time since I've written something about my students, maybe it's because we had a long vacation. For two weeks, I was given a flashback of what I was doing before I became a teacher- a freelance gfx artist.

The first two days of the vacation, I was so excited and working up to twelve hours straight- then the third to the last day of vacation- was a cycle of sleep-draw-eat-sleep-eat then repeat. Don't get me wrong I still kept up with my self made deadlines- but it's just different.

Then I realized why- I am a part time artist, full time teacher. Drawing and illustrating has become a tool, a help- to becoming a better teacher. The reason why I my interest in drawing grew was because of my students- of all the silly things they wanted me to draw- plus the fact that whatever I draw, they'd be amazed- all that stuff inspired me to continue drawing.

And now, with classes resuming and Teacher's Day coming this Friday- appreciated or not- I know this for sure:

I've done everything to be the best full-time teacher I could ever be.

OUCH! 01 POSTPONEMENT

First of all, I would like to express my deepest apologies to everyone who I've led on with Ouch! Actually, it's really finished and is ready for printing. But when I was about to go to the printers- I asked myself if it's really worth the cost-

And the sad answer is that it is not. More than half of the illustrations are not new, the new ones were rushed- I've put a draft comics half made- in short, I would not buy Ouch! myself.

So, I would not be holding a booth anymore for m3con- sorry . I will keep on working with Ouch! to make it really the best I can- not because I rushed it. I don't want to just put samples of the Sugar Rush manga, i want to put the whole first chapter itself. I want every person who'll buy the comics will really treasure it and not treat it like a coloring book. >_<
